5 Halloween Decorating Tips in Under 5 Minutes

Halloween is coming and we all know how much the kids love a Halloween themed cupcake!

If you’re having a party and don’t have the time to fiddle with decorating those cakes, don’t despair with a few basic store cupboard ingredients you can make yourself look like a decorating goddess/god.

You will need to make the cupcakes using the basic vanilla cupcake or basic chocolate cupcake recipe and leave them to cool. You will also need to make some basic vanilla buttercream icing from the recipe. Apart from that buy some liquorice wheels or laces, some ice cream cones and some mini M&Ms or other small sweets.  Buy some ready made icing in tubes in various colours and a few tubes of food colouring.

Here are 5 quick and easy ways to decorate basic cupcakes to give that spooky Halloween feel to any party, that even the kids can do!

All these ideas assume 12 cupcakes.

Wicked Witch Cupcakes

Make 12 vanilla cupcakes.

Make some buttercream icing and colour it green.

24 mini M&Ms – for the eyes

Black Liquorice laces – for the hair

Any pointed sweets – for the nose

Press a generous amount of the green buttercream onto the cooled cakes, and press the ice cream cones upside down onto the buttercream to make the hat. Break the liquorice into the required lengths for the hair and attach. Use the mimi M&Ms for the eyes, and an orange coloured sweet for the nose (corn cones used in picture).

Very easy!

 

Pumpkin Cupcakes

Use chocolate cupcakes for this one.

Make some buttercream icing and colour it orange.

1 tube each of brown and green decorating icing

Place a little of the buttercream onto the cooled cakes and spread with a  small knife to look like pumpkin skin. Draw on the faces and hair with the decorating icing.

Very Easy!

 

Even Easier Spider Cupcakes

12 vanilla cupcakes

Buttercream icing  (coloured purple)

Decorating icing  (coloured black)

Spider cupcakeSpread a little of the purple icing onto the cooled cakes. Place the black icing into a piping bag, and cut off the corner.  Draw three circles onto the cakes starting from the middle, using the decorating icing.

With a toothpick drag through the circles to make the webs. If you want to add a spider make it from an M&M and pipe some legs.

Easy Scary Cupcakes

1  Vanilla butter cream (coloured orange)

Assemble the cakes.
